Dubrovnik Day 1

Early morning start at 4am to get to the train station to get to the airport! And of course once we boarded the plane we were informed we would not be moving for an hour cause it was too busy. It’s like you think they would preplan the flights to avoid this issue.

We ended up only landing about 30minutes later than expected in Dubrovnik. But when we went to get our rental car it was SO SLOW. There were only like 3 people ahead of us but we had to wait like 45minutes! Thankfully I was prepared so once it was finally our turn the process moved quickly. We ended up getting a free upgrade to a Mercedes. Thankfully, this happened to me once at work so I kinda understand the high tech controls.

The drive to our hotel took about an hour and we had some beautiful views along the way!

Once we got to the hotel, we had a quick snack in the executive lounge (since I’m now a gold member at Hilton wowowoow). We had about an hour until we could get into our room so we went for a bit of a stroll around the Old Town. So beautiful.

Pile Gate (Entrance into the city walls)

Random little side paths throughout the city

After exploring for a bit, we headed back to the hotel to get into our room and find a beach to relax at for an hour before our Game of Thrones tour. The GPS gave some crappy directions so we ended up walking up some ridiculous hill that was totally unnecessary. Made it more refreshing to get into the water though! I forgot to take a photo of the little rock beach we went to, but the water was beautiful and clear.

Finally. It was time. Game of Thrones tour! The tour was 3hrs long and our guide gave us some general history of Croatia as well. Actually really enjoyed the tour and definitely recommend if you are a GoT fan.

The Red Keep!

Most of the tour was us walking to a spot and our guide showing us a photo from the TV show that was filmed there. You could see what they had to CGI and what random words they covered with random props. It was super interesting. Our guide had worked on some of the sets of GoT during filming so he had a lot of random fun facts.

The Shame steps!

Did some recreating too. Kinda crazy to actually think how they were literally standing in the exact same spot as us when they filmed!

Towards the end of our tour we had a break to play with fake props from the TV show! We had a blast and got some great photos and videos.

Arya stabbing the Night King

Dothraki murder (this thing weighed a TON)

We weren’t great at not laughing when posing

Side note- we were playing with the swords right outside of a church and at one point a wedding party came out and had a whole song and dance outside the church which was super cool to see!

The wedding also set off flares while they walked away from the church which was pretty wild

After the tour we went back, ate some snacks at the lounge, showered, then went to dinner. We ended up getting this amazing table right next to the water with great views of the city walls. We both got a variety of fish since we are literally next to the water and it was delicious!
